The Administrative Department for Tourism of Istria Region has successfully completed the project “Parenzana – Sabadin Viaduct Improvement”, co-financed by the Ministry of Tourism and Sport through the 2024 Public Call for the Allocation of Funds for the Development of Public Tourism Infrastructure.
The project involved the renovation of the upper structure of the Sabadin Viaduct – one of the most scenic points along the Parenzana trail. Drainage outlets were installed to allow rainwater to run off the surface, thereby preventing water from seeping into the viaduct structure and causing long-term damage.
To enhance safety for cyclists and pedestrians, the project also included the installation of traffic signage marking Parenzana crossings over main roads. Additionally, a smart bench was installed at the rest area in Vižinada. Equipped with solar panels, wireless charging ports, LED ambient lighting, a cooled seating surface, pressure, temperature, and humidity sensors, an air compressor, hand tools, an e-bike charger, and a bike rack, the bench was produced by Uljanik TESU Elektronika from Pula.
Through this initiative, Istria Region continues to invest in enriching outdoor experiences and improving infrastructure for both visitors and local residents.
As a project partner, the City of Poreč installed a smart bench along the Parenzana trail in the settlement of Stancija Vergotini.
The project was carried out under the Ministry’s program, aimed at supporting the strategic goals of the Sustainable Tourism Development Strategy through 2030. The total project value amounts to €66,170.19.
